The Power of Believing Someone Can Fly
Early in my career, I was very fortunate to encounter an incredible mentor who took me under their wing. At the time, I didn't know exactly where my career was headed, have clarity on my passions, strengths or even my own potential. But they saw things in me that I couldn't see. They pushed me out of my comfort zone, trusted me with things I had no experience in, encouraged me to explore, take risks and made it safe for me to fail.
They built me up when I succeeded and never let me get discouraged when there were bumps in the road. They asked me tough questions to challenge me and deepen my thinking. They were patient when I didn't have the answers. They shared information unnecessarily to provide the context I needed to see the big picture. They truly valued my opinion and helped me find my own voice.
Most of all, they believed in me before I even believed in myself, which proved to be the most invaluable gift: a champion, an advocate, an encourager.
Never underestimate the impact you can have on someone else's life. Who are you lifting up? Who do you believe in?
